Getting Started 5 questions
What is FictionForge?
FictionForge is a gamified AI-powered fiction writing platform that turns your novel into an epic quest. You gain XP for every chapter you write, unlock achievement badges as you hit milestones, and get real-time AI co-writing assistance that adapts to your unique style. It combines the motivational structure of an RPG with cutting-edge AI to help writers finish their stories faster — and actually enjoy the process.
How do I start writing with FictionForge?
Getting started is simple. Sign up for a free account on our website — no credit card required. After confirming your email, you can immediately create your first project by choosing a genre, a story template, or starting from scratch. The onboarding wizard walks you through setting up your world, characters, and a plot outline. From there you just start writing, and our AI co-writer is available from the very first paragraph.
Is there a free trial?
Yes! FictionForge offers a generous free plan that gives you 5,000 words per month with access to basic AI suggestions, the level system, and core writing tools. If you want to try a paid plan before committing, our Writer and Author plans come with a 14-day free trial that gives you full access to all features, including unlimited AI generations, advanced style matching, and priority export formats. Cancel anytime during the trial with no charge.
Do I need writing experience to use FictionForge?
Not at all. FictionForge is built for writers of every skill level — from complete beginners who have never finished a chapter to published authors working on their next novel. Beginners benefit from guided story templates, AI-assisted plotting, and the gamified motivation system that makes writing feel like a game. Experienced writers can dive straight into advanced mode with full control over style, tone, and AI intervention levels. The platform scales with you.
Can I import my existing work-in-progress into FictionForge?
Absolutely. FictionForge supports importing existing manuscripts in plain text, Markdown, DOCX, and EPUB formats. Your chapters, scene breaks, and basic formatting are preserved during import. Once uploaded, the AI co-writer analyzes your existing text to learn your style and voice, so it can provide coherent suggestions from the very first page. You can also retroactively assign characters and world elements to existing content using our tagging system.
AI Co-Writer & Features 6 questions
How does the AI co-writer work?
The FictionForge AI co-writer is an advanced language model fine-tuned specifically for fiction. It analyzes your existing text to learn your writing style, character voices, and story direction. You can ask it to continue a scene, suggest dialogue, overcome writer's block by generating multiple plot branches, or rewrite passages in a different tone. Unlike generic AI tools, our model understands narrative structure, character consistency, and genre conventions. You remain in full control — the AI suggests, you decide.
What genres does FictionForge support?
FictionForge supports virtually every fiction genre. Our AI models are fine-tuned for fantasy, science fiction, romance, thriller, mystery, horror, historical fiction, literary fiction, young adult, new adult, and many more. Each genre has specialized story templates, vocabulary models, and narrative conventions built in. We also support sub-genres like cyberpunk, cozy mystery, dark romance, epic fantasy, and near-future sci-fi. If you write it, FictionForge can handle it.
Is my writing private and secure?
Absolutely. Your writing belongs to you and only you. FictionForge never trains on your content, never shares your stories, and never uses your work to improve our models without explicit permission. All data is encrypted in transit (TLS 1.3) and at rest (AES-256). We are fully GDPR-compliant and based in Austria, which has some of the strongest data protection laws in the world. You can delete your account and all associated data at any time from your settings.
Can I disable the AI assistance and write manually?
Yes, completely. FictionForge is designed for writers who want full creative control. You can disable AI suggestions entirely in your settings, or toggle them off on a per-project basis. Some writers use the AI only for brainstorming and plot development, others use it for line-by-line co-writing, and many write entirely manually and only call on the AI when they hit a block. The leveling system and achievements work regardless of how much AI assistance you use — your progress is based on your writing output, not AI usage.
How does the AI adapt to my personal writing style?
The FictionForge AI adapts to your unique voice through continuous style analysis. As you write, it learns your sentence rhythm, word preferences, dialogue patterns, and genre-specific vocabulary. Over time, suggestions become increasingly aligned with your natural style — the AI doesn't force a generic template on you. You can also upload samples of your previous work for instant style calibration, so the AI matches your voice from the very first suggestion, even across different projects.
Can I use FictionForge to brainstorm plot ideas and develop characters?
Yes. FictionForge includes dedicated brainstorming and idea-generation tools. You can use the AI-powered Plot Bonsai mode to generate branching storylines, explore what-if scenarios, and test different character decisions before committing them to your manuscript. The Character Builder suggests personality traits, backstory hooks, and relationship dynamics based on your chosen genre. These tools live outside your main manuscript, so you can experiment freely without disrupting your working draft.
Gamification & Level System 5 questions
How does FictionForge's gamification system keep me motivated?
FictionForge turns writing into an RPG-like progression journey. Every word you write, every chapter you complete, and every day you log in earns you experience points (XP). As you accumulate XP, you level up through 20 distinct ranks — from Novice all the way to Mythic. Writing streaks, daily quests, and achievement badges provide constant positive reinforcement. You can see your progress visualized on your dashboard, making each writing session feel like meaningful progression in your author journey.
How does the XP and level system work?
You earn XP for every meaningful writing action. Writing new words earns base XP, with bonuses for completing chapters, hitting daily word goals, and maintaining writing streaks. Editing and revising also grant XP at a reduced rate. Each level requires progressively more XP to advance, reflecting your growth as a writer. Your current level, XP bar, and progress toward the next level are always visible on your dashboard. Level-ups are accompanied by celebratory animations and unlock notifications.
What are the 20 level titles from Novice to Mythic?
The 20 FictionForge levels are: Novice, Apprentice, Scribe, Wordsmith, Storyteller, Artisan, Bard, Chronicler, Loremaster, Sage, Visionary, Architext, Maestro, Luminary, Grandmaster, Legend, Myth-Weaver, Epic, Transcendent, and finally Mythic. Each rank comes with a unique badge icon and color scheme displayed on your profile. Reaching higher tiers like Grandmaster and above unlocks exclusive platform features, including priority AI processing, custom themes, and special profile badges visible to the community.
What unlocks when I reach a new level?
Leveling up in FictionForge rewards you with both cosmetic and functional unlocks. Cosmetic rewards include exclusive profile badges, custom level icons, and special color themes for your writing dashboard. Functional unlocks include increased daily AI suggestion limits, access to advanced AI models, and priority in the AI generation queue. Higher levels also unlock specialized writing tools like the deep Style Analyzer and advanced World Builder features. Every level-up is a tangible sign of your progress as a writer.
How do writing streaks and daily goals work?
Writing streaks track consecutive days you meet your personal daily word goal. You can set your target anywhere from 100 to 5,000 words per day. Each day you meet or exceed your goal, your streak counter increases and you earn streak XP bonuses that multiply the longer your streak grows. Miss a day? Streak freezes — earned through achievements or available on paid plans — protect your progress. A 7-day streak unlocks a bonus badge, and 30+ day streaks grant significant XP multipliers.
Achievements & Badges 5 questions
What kinds of achievements and badges can I earn?
FictionForge features over 50 achievement badges organized into categories: Milestone achievements for word counts and completed projects, Streak achievements for consistent daily writing, Genre Mastery badges for writing across different genres, Skill achievements for using specific platform features, and Community badges for engaging with other writers. Each badge has a unique icon, title, and rarity tier — common, rare, epic, or legendary. Collecting all badges in a category unlocks a special category master award.
How do I unlock achievement badges?
Achievements unlock automatically as you hit specific milestones and complete actions on the platform. For example, writing your first 10,000 words unlocks the "First Draft" badge, maintaining a 30-day streak earns the "Iron Will" badge, and completing your first full novel project awards the "Novelist" badge. Each achievement has visible progress tracking so you always know what you're working toward. When you unlock one, a celebratory notification appears, and the badge is added to your permanent collection.
Are there genre-specific achievements?
Yes. FictionForge awards genre-specific mastery badges for writing across different fiction categories. Complete a fantasy novel and earn the "World Shaper" badge. Finish a LitRPG book and unlock "System Architect." Write a mystery to earn "Plot Weaver" or a romance for "Heart Scribe." There are also crossover achievements for authors who write in multiple genres, such as "Genre Explorer" for publishing projects in three different genres and "Renaissance Writer" for mastering five or more.
Where can I see my collected achievements?
Your achievement collection lives on your personal profile page, accessible from your dashboard. It displays as a visual trophy wall with all earned badges arranged by category and rarity. You can filter by category, search for specific badges, and see progress toward locked ones. Each badge card shows the unlock date and a short flavor text describing the achievement. Your profile is shareable with a unique URL, so you can show your writing progress to friends, beta readers, or your publishing network.
Do achievements have any practical benefits on the platform?
Beyond the satisfaction of collecting them, achievements unlock tangible perks. Some achievements grant streak freezes, which protect your writing streak if you miss a day. Others unlock exclusive profile themes, custom cursor effects for the editor, or bonus XP modifiers. Legendary-tier achievements can unlock early access to new features, special community roles on our Discord server, and priority support queue access. They are designed to reward not just showing up, but truly mastering the craft of writing.
LitRPG & Genre Fiction 5 questions
Is FictionForge optimized for LitRPG and GameLit authors?
Absolutely. FictionForge's DNA is built around RPG mechanics, making it a natural fit for LitRPG and GameLit authors. The platform includes dedicated LitRPG templates with pre-built stat sheet formatting, skill tree structures, level-up sequences, and game system documentation tools. The AI co-writer understands common LitRPG tropes like character sheets, ability descriptions, and progression milestones. Our World Builder has specific templates for managing in-game mechanics, magic systems, and tiered power progression that LitRPG authors need.
Can FictionForge help me create stat sheets, skill trees, and RPG mechanics for my story?
Yes. The FictionForge World Builder includes specialized modules for RPG game mechanics. You can create character stat blocks with custom attributes like Strength, Intelligence, and Agility, then track how they change throughout your story. The Skill Tree editor lets you visualize progression paths for your characters, complete with unlock requirements and branching options. These elements live in structured data panels alongside your manuscript, keeping your game mechanics organized and consistent across chapters. Export options preserve stat table formatting.
How does the World Builder tool work for fantasy and sci-fi authors?
The World Builder is a structured knowledge base that lives alongside your manuscript. You can create entries for locations, characters, factions, magic systems, technology, timelines, and lore — all cross-referenced and searchable. The AI assists by suggesting consistent details based on your existing world entries, flagging contradictions, and filling in gaps. For example, if you mention a fictional city built on a cliff, the AI will remember that and avoid generating references to riverside docks without your input.
Can I write in multiple genres or switch genres between projects?
Yes, you can create and manage unlimited projects across different genres simultaneously. Each project has its own genre setting, AI model configuration, and style profile. Switching between a fantasy novel in the morning and a sci-fi short story in the afternoon is seamless — the AI recalibrates to each project's genre conventions, vocabulary, and narrative style automatically. Your level and XP are account-wide, so you earn progress no matter which genre you're writing in. Cross-genre writers are celebrated with special mastery badges.
How does the Style Analyzer help me stay on-genre?
The Style Analyzer provides real-time feedback on how your writing aligns with your chosen genre's conventions. It tracks metrics like pacing, dialogue-to-narrative ratio, sentence length variety, vocabulary complexity, and emotional tone. For each metric, it shows how you compare to published works in your genre. If your thriller is dragging in the middle, the analyzer suggests tightening the pacing. If your fantasy is light on sensory description, it encourages richer world-building. Think of it as a genre-aware editor that never sleeps.

The free plan is genuinely useful for casual writers and a great way to evaluate whether FictionForge fits your workflow before upgrading.
Do unused words carry over to the next month?
On the Free plan, unused words do not carry over — your 5,000-word allowance resets at the start of each billing month. Writer and Author plan subscribers can roll over up to 20% of unused words to the following month, giving you flexibility during heavy editing periods or months when you write less. You can check your word usage and remaining balance at any time from your account dashboard, which also shows a projection of your monthly usage trend.
Technical & Support 4 questions
What devices and browsers are supported?
FictionForge runs entirely in your web browser, so it works on any device with an internet connection and a modern browser. We fully support Chrome, Firefox, Safari, and Edge on desktop, tablet, and mobile. The interface is fully responsive and optimized for touch-screen writing on iPads and other tablets. There is no native app required — just open your browser and start writing. We are developing dedicated mobile and desktop apps for offline-first writing, coming later this year.
Does FictionForge work offline?
Currently, FictionForge requires an internet connection for AI-powered features, account synchronization, and cloud storage. However, you can use your browser's native text editor as a scratchpad offline and paste content back into your project when you reconnect. We are actively developing a Progressive Web App (PWA) with full offline support that will allow you to write, edit, and sync your work without an active internet connection. This feature is expected to launch in Q3 2026.
Can I export my work for publishing?
Yes. FictionForge supports multiple export formats designed for self-publishing and professional workflows. On the Free plan you can export in plain text and Markdown. Writer and Author plans unlock EPUB, PDF, MOBI, and DOCX formats. All exports preserve your formatting, chapter structure, and metadata. You can export individual scenes or your entire manuscript with a single click. Our formatting engine ensures clean output compatible with Amazon KDP, IngramSpark, Draft2Digital, and other major publishing platforms.
Can I collaborate with beta readers, editors, or co-writers on FictionForge?
Yes. FictionForge includes built-in collaboration tools on the Writer and Author plans. You can invite beta readers and editors to view specific projects with read-only or comment-only permissions. They can leave inline feedback, suggestions, and notes without altering your original text. Co-author mode allows multiple writers to work on the same project with version history and change tracking. You control exactly who sees what, and all shared data remains encrypted and covered by our privacy policy.
